The first construction phase of a major expansion of high-speed internet access for Nevada County is expected to begin next spring. Spiral Internet CEO John Paul says that’s about six months later than was originally hoped, but it’s not unusual…
Around 29-hundred homes will eventually be eligible for hookups to the gigabit optic network. Paul says the first phase is in an area of Highway 174 and Dog Bar Road down to the Placer County border. He says customers will be graduallly connected, as construction progresses, with completion estimated in 2019. There are also two more phases…
The Public Utilities Commission approved Spiral’s grant request of 16-point-7 million dollars for Phase One. Paul hopes state funding can also be obtained for the other phases. A timeline for that work hasn’t been established yet. Paul says the internet speed will rival the Bay Area and it may also help attract more job-producing businesses to the area.
