High Speed Motorcycle Antics on Highway 49

High speed motorcycle activity caused some traffic concerns in South County. A pack of motorcycle riders traveling northbound at high speeds caught the attention of a CHP officer on patrol just north of the county line near Auburn yesterday morning. Officer Greg Tassone says the lead rider was moving faster than the group and also performing tricks as he made his way towards Grass Valley.

The officer attempted to catch up to make a traffic stop on the motorcycle, but the rider accelerated away.

The rider continued northbound recklessly passing vehicles and swerving in and out of traffic at high rates of speed. The CHP initiated air support to assist with tracking the motorcycle, however, traffic became heavy enough that the pursuit vehicle was able to catch and stop the motorcycle just south of Cerrito Road. The entire chase covered almost seven miles. No accidents occurred as a result of the chase. The rider was booked on reckless driving charges.
