Highway 49 Sinkhole Repair Almost Complete

Caltrans has some good news this week for motorists who use Highway 49.

Spokeswoman Rochelle Jenkins says the road is due to open this week–either Wednesday or Thursday. The problem developed in early December when a heavy winter storm dumped a large amount of water into a culvert under the highway which had been built in the 1950s. The original estimate for repairs was 30 days, but Jenkins says the hole was much deeper than they thought.

Also, Jenkins says some sound wall work is being finished up on the LaBarr Meadows project. No construction is scheduled after that until the spring.
