The Nevada County Historical Society Friday closed escrow on the purchase of the National Guard Armory building in Nevada City. The 10,800 square foot building located at the corner of Zion and Ridge Roads has been vacant for quite some time. The purchase price was $210,000 and Historical Society Board President Daniel Ketchum says the plan is to move the Searles Historical Library out of it’s cramped quarters on Pine street into a portion of the Armory Building.*
The Historical Society has been maintaining a Searls Building Fund for several years and donors have generously been adding to it. Last year the Historical Society received a generout $100,000 donation that helped them push over the top to be able to purchase the armory building.*
Ketchum says after 6 months to make repairs, they should be able to move the Searles Historical Library into it’s new location.
