History and Use of Water Wheels in Nevada County

Water Wheels, known for thousands of years for their small task capabilities became valuable high energy tools with the exploitation of high pressure Sierra water in the  Gold Rush Era. Local residents, Robert Kraft and Robert Samay have amassed a collection of over 200 water wheels over the years,  and Kraft says the pair will be speaking tonight at the Nevada County Historical Society meeting   on the origin and uses of water wheels, including the Pelton Wheel which was created in Nevada County.

Kraft and Samay will bring many of the small wheels for viewing as well as presenting pictures of larger varieties in the Nevada County Historical Society speaker night presentation at the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room this evening beginning at 7pm.  The event is free and open to the public.
