History of the Nevada City Bicycle Classic

The Nevada County Historical Society Speaker event Thursday night will feature Duane Strawser, Nevada City Councilman and owner of the Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop on the history of the Annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic, now in it’s 56th year.

At the time many of the shops downtown were closed and Allert came up with a creative idea to host a Pro Am Criterium Race in Nevada City. Cycling at the time was something new and growing.

The race was and still is scheduled on Fathers Day Sunday.

Strawser will have video and pictures of the early Nevada City Bicycle Classic for the Speaker Night presentation Thursday April 21st starting at 7 pm in the Madelyn Helling Library Community Room. The event is free to the public and runs about one hour.
