So while cases are still light, Cutler says this is a good time to get a flu shot, especially the more vulnerable population, including seniors, young children, and people with chronic diseases. He says the national vaccination rate, so far, is around 40-percent. No local numbers were available. Cutler says this year’s vaccine is also better matched with the flu strains than last year and there are plenty of supplies available. It also takes up to two weeks for the vaccine to provide full protection.
