Holiday Travel Lower But Still Lots Doing It

To the alarm of public health officials, Christmas is looking an awful lot like Thanksgiving when it comes to travelling in California. Triple-A Spokesman Sergio Avila says at least three-quarters of residents will stay at home. But even the most dire warnings seemed to have failed so sink in. A significant number are still determined to spend time with loved ones, maintain family traditions, and turn to others to support during challenging times…

And for those who do travel, Avila says the vast majority are choosing to drive, by an even higher percentage than normal…

And with a more spread out travel period, which Triple-A considers to be from December 23rd through January third, traffic congestion is normally not as strong an issue, compared to Thanksgiving. Avila says volume might be only 20-percent above normal, close to Christmas, this season, when it, traditionally, can be three to five times higher.
