Home Burglar Causes School Lockdown

More information is being learned about what caused two schools to be locked down on Friday. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says the lockdown was prompted by a man in his twenties trying to get in the front door of a home near the schools on Bitney Springs Road. The Sheriff says the female victim was inside the home the entire time the suspect was trying to break in.

The Sheriff says when deputies arrived the suspect fled. 29 year old Nathan Gilbert was found by a CHP Officer a short distance from the home. He was taken into custody for suspicion of attempted burglary and violation of probation. The victim was able to identify the suspect in a photo lineup. The Sheriff says because of the proxminity of the two schools to the crime the decision was made to lock down the schools.
