Have you ever received a solicitation that appeared on the level, but something about it didn’t seem quite right? There is currently a misleading solicitation from The Hospice Support Fund circulating in our area that preys on the myth that all hospice organizations are connected. They are not. Some, like Hospice of the Foothills, are non-profit organizations while others are corporate institutions.
The Hospice Support Fund solicitation currently in circulation identifies itself as the “2015 Grass Valley Area Annual Appeal” mailed from The Hospice Support Fund in Merrifield, Virginia (A Program of The New Hope Foundation, Inc.). This solicitation is not connected and should not be confused with Hospice of the Foothills’ current annual drive or any Friends of Hospice fundraising campaign. There is no parent organization that raises funds on behalf of hospice organizations nationwide. Hospice of the Foothills has never received funds or benefits The Hospice Support Fund. Additionally, the website provided on the back of the solicitation form appears to no longer exist. A Google search netted multiple posts about the organization using words such as “WARNING!,” “scam,” and “beware.”
If you ever have a question or doubt about the origin or scope of a fundraising appeal in support of hospice programs and service, Hospice of the Foothills, or Friends of Hospice, call at 530-272-5739.
