A mysterious explosion that shook the neighborhood of Hughes Road and Lidster Avenue Tuesday night remains a mystery. Nevada County Consolidated Battalion Chief, Jim Turner says the calls came in around 10 pm.

When Firefighters arrived they could find no evidence of an explosion or anything wrong. Battalion Chief Turner says they started searching for other possible sources.

Grass Valley Police also responded but could not find any source for the mysterious explosion. But according to one local resident, something happened.

Police also dispelled the thought that it might have been juveniles setting off a dry ice bomb in the neighborhood.

At around 9:20 last night there was an explosion that I heard from north of Main St Grass Valley. It seemed to be of some substance. Immediately afterwards there was the sounds of motorcycles in a hurry to leave someplace. These motorcycles were the type that would be considered crotch rockets (not Harleys). There seemed to be several crotch rockets. I am a verbal witness not visual. Hope all of this helps. Also noticed there were no sirens....Why not?

I live on Lidster ave. I was in bed and my boyfriend and I heard a huge noise and the house shook, I thought the chimney collapsed, we went out to investigate but found nothing out of place
