Hundreds Of Distressed and Dead Birds Seized

Brown says about 360 live birds and 38 dead ones were taken, including chickens, geese, and parakeets. The surviving birds have been transported to Animal Place where they’ve been treated for starvation and tested for disease. Brown says he’s not aware of any past complaints about the store, which opened in 1994. The Simply Country web site says they’ve been serving the community since 1964, when the Grass Valley store opened. The Rough and Ready Store remains open…

No arrests have been made. Brown says the investigation report, which he says will take a while, will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed. Four of the dead birds have been sent to UC-Davis to be tested for diseases or other related issues.
