I-80 Lane Closure at Weimar Cross Road Begins 8 p.m. Sunday May 10-22

Motorists will experience delays

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists that additional time will be required to travel on eastbound Interstate 80 under the Weimar Cross Road Overcrossing in Placer County.  One lane of Interstate 80 will close at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 10  through 5 a.m. Friday, May 22 for 4,000 feet (3/4 mile) at Weimar Cross Road as crews excavate the section of Interstate 80 under the overcrossing as part of the “Raise80” project which is increasing the vertical clearance of nine freeway overcrossings on Interstate 80 in south Placer County.

Eastbound motorists can expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes throughout the project with significantly longer delays of up to 90 minutes on Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16. Westbound traffic will not be affected.

The Weimar Cross Road Overcrossing in Weimar is the first structure whose height requirements will be met by lowering the eastbound roadway under the overcrossing. The Weimar Cross Road Overcrossing over Interstate 80 will remain open to traffic. Weather or other unexpected events may prolong the work or cause construction activities to be rescheduled.

The nine overpass structures being raised on I-80 are between Magra Road and Loomis in Placer County. Six of the structures will have the bridge deck raised approximately two feet, and three of the structures will have the roadway below lowered to achieve the necessary clearance. When complete, all structures will meet today’s federal clearance standards for high-profile vehicles and national defense, eliminating the need for most high-profile vehicles to use local roads as detours.
