Immigration Bill Veto Prevents State and Federal Conflicts

Law enforcement say a veto by Governor Brown of a immigration bill in California is a good thing. Sheriff Royal says AB 1081 would have restricted law enforcement from telling the federal authorities about a illegal immigrant in local custody. The Sheriff says federal law requires the sheriff to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the immigration status of a person illegally in this state. The proposed law would have made it illegal for any law enforcement to notify the federal authorities. Sheriff Royal says with Governor Brown’s veto of the bill on Sunday it stopped a conflict between federal and local law enforcement.
