Inaugural Heart of Gold Race on Saturday

After being postponed in September, because of North State wildfire smoke, the inaugural Heart of Gold Race is happening on Saturday in Nevada County. Over 200 bicyclists from all over the state have signed up. The 55-mile gravel course, with a 72-hundred-foot vertical climb,starts at the Rood Center. But Bullock says it’s also a fundraiser for mental wellness programs for local youth, with revenue from the 145-dollar entry fees. That includes Bright Futures for Youth, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Child Advocates, the Nevada Joint Union and Tahoe-Truckee High School districts, and Youth Bicyclists of Nevada County…

About eight-percent of local children face abuse or neglect, higher than the statewide average, according to the California Healthy Kids Survey. Heart of Gold begins at 8am on Saturday.
