Inmate Takes Own Life at County Jail

A inmate at the Nevada County jail has committed suicide. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says the male in his 50’s went to the second floor of his housing unit climbed on the railing and jumped off, at ten this morning (Tuesday). The Sheriff says the man received very significant trauma to his head when he hit a metal table as he landed.

Sheriff Royal says emergency medical personal and custody staff immediately tried the use life saving methods. Because of the injures the man received he was declared dead at the scene.

The Sheriff says there was no indication that the person had any type of psychiatric issues. His department is conducting a investigation into the incident. The Sheriff says they have not located the next of kin for the man, so they are not releasing the name of the deceased. The man was in custody on a felony charge.
