Insurance Commissioner Issues Order Protecting Fire Insurance

Good news for a number of residents in Nevada County that may have been worried their fire insurance was going to be cancelled because of the recent Jones Fire in August and the ongoing threat of wildfire in western Nevada County. County Sr management Analyst Jeff Thornsby says State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara made the announcement last week.

The order effects zip codes in and around an area where a devastating fire has occurred; and this year the Jones Fire has been added to the list.

The order only covers fires from year to year, that is why Nevada County was not included in 2019.
Fire insurance will be an ongoing issue moving into 2021.
Thornsby says that the board of supervisors is actively seeking input from residents regarding the status of their fire insurance so they have compelling data to share with legislators while actively lobbying for stable and affordable home and property insurance.
