I-80 Closed Tonight; Detour Through Nevada County

Tonight is the night. Interstate 80 will be closed in both directions between Highways 20 and 49, and traffic detoured through Grass Valley and Nevada City. Rochelle Jenkins with Caltrans says crews will literally be lifting the bridge at Magra Road…

Several structures will either be raised, or the freeway lowered, to achieve a new federal clearance requirement of 16 and-a-half feet, but this is the only one that will require a detour through Nevada County. Jenkins says during the night, Westbound trucks will be escorted down Highway 20, and will also have their brakes inspected…

Jenkins says many trucking companies have announced that they will have their drivers just pull over and sleep instead of making the 56-mile detour, and Jenkins says that’s what Caltrans has been encouraging…

Jenkins says it will be about 4:30 or 5am before they’ll know if they need to close the freeway for a second night tomorrow.

These bridge clearance issues accross the US are to allow military equipment to clear including UN,United Nation like Russia, in case of marshal law and cvil unrest (war).They won't admit it so don't bother asking. Coming soon to a niebhorhood near you.
