It’s Free Green Waste Disposal Weekend!

The first of the two free residential green waste disposal weekends for Nevada County this year begins Friday, May 21st. Jenn Tamo, the Administrative Analyst for the Office of Emergency Services, says there are exceptions to what’s dropped off. That includes poison oak, blackberry bushes, oleander, and scotchbroom. That’s because the material is also being processed for free mulch…

Also, no tree stumps, treated wood, or root bulbs. Tamo says more than five-thousand tons was collected for the first events a year ago, about ten times more than in the past. And that’s because dumpsters, that fill up too quickly, are no longer used. A large lot has been set aside at the Rise Gold site in Grass Valley. You can come as often as you like. And Tamo hopes that’s the case, since removal of much of the material is helping reduce the wildfire danger…

That’s from 7am to 3pm Friday through Monday. Tamo says drivers are also asked to access the site from East Bennett at Millsite Roads, to help accomodate disposal more quickly. The second disposal weekend is from June 11th through the 14th.
