There are more than just Nevada County inmates at Nevada County’s Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Sierra County closed their jail a few years ago, and Nevada County also takes in prisoners from Shasta and Amador counties, because those jails are having issues with overcrowding. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says there’s plenty of room here…
The county also makes money from it. Royal says they get about 78 dollars a day from other counties and occasional federal prisoners, while the cost to house them is far less than that…
Royal says there are about half-dozen inmates from Sierra County at a time. The Nevada County Board of Supervisors just voted to renew the annual contract with Sierra County to house their prisoners at the meeting last week.
