For the second month in a row, Nevada County’s unemployment rate has dropped. The May rate was 4-point-3 percent, compared to 4-point-7 percent in April. The Assistant Director of the One-Stop Center in Grass Valley, which also provides job services for other area counties, is Luis Moreno. He says more water recreation jobs should be available this summer…

Moreno says the biggest numerical improvement in Nevada County jobs, from April to May, was in mining, logging, and construction, or 190. He says that can also be attributed to a wetter and snowier winter….

The second largest numerical increase over the last month was in government, or 140. But otherwise, Moreno says our rate stays pretty flat throughout the year, with few seasonal fluctuations, other than the ski season in the Truckee area. Nevada County, once again, has the 15th-lowest unemployment rate among California’s 58 counties.
