Last month, drug charges were dismissed against Joel Franks, after prosecutors said the Hollitz had an inappropriate relationship with a confidential informant. Newell says of the pending cases, which include defendants on probation, four will require further review, which all involve felony charges. The remaining 40 are closed cases, where a defendant was convicted and sentenced or placed on probation, with most involving misdemeanor charges. Newell says none of the 80 cases feature violent crimes, with the vast majority related to drugs, when Hollitz was on the Narcotics Task Force. The other arrests occurred when Hollitz was a patrol officer. Meanwhile, Hollitz is not facing any charges, so far. Newell says his review of all cases should be completed within a month.
