As anyone that has listened to my Swap Shop show (and that’s all of you, right? Right??) knows I enjoy cooking. I enjoy cooking for just my wife and I also enjoy cooking for the whole family. I also enjoy it when my wife prepares the meals.
Sunday evening the kids came over for dinner, and she made up the fixings for taco salad. Laid everything out on the counter and announced come and make your own salad. When I say everything was laid out on the counter, I meant everything except the meat which was on the stove in the pan it was cooked in. (Fewer dishes to wash is a good thing!) After everyone else had made up their salad I fixed mine. We all sat around the table and talked and laughed. A great time was had by all.
Since I was the last one seated, I was the last one to finish as well. As I was finishing up, my wife asked if I wanted to put some of the meat in a separate baggie for my next day’s lunch. I said sure what good is a taco salad without the meat? The words were no sooner out of my mouth, still hanging there in their own cartoon style bubble, when I realized I didn’t put any meat on my salad!
It turned out to be a good thing. I was able to rationalize a larger helping of ice cream for dessert, since I was missing the meat calories . . . . . . . .
