For the past 7 years KNCO has been supporting the Nevada County Food Bank with a Turkey drive in our parking lot. This year Food Bank Director, Toni Thompson says the Turkey drive will be even bigger and is moving to the parking lot in front of SaveMart.

This year the Food Bank will also be providing turkey dinner to all of Interfaith Food Ministry’s clients as well as their own. Thompson says that has really increased the need for turkeys.

The collection of turkeys has already started and Thompson says Save Mart has agreed to store donated turkey’s in their freezer if people want to purchase one before Monday’s event.

Thompson says turkeys and cash donations are their main focus right now as the food bank will be able to purchase side dishes as a discount.

The Food Bank survives totally on donations from the community. Thompson says they do not get any money from the county.

The Food Bank uses a mobile van to distribute food once a month at locations around the county. Thompson says she is always trying to find out what is driving the increasing need for food assistance.

The KNCO SaveMart turkey drive will run from 6 to 6 on Monday November 17th. KNCO staff will be on hand throughout the day to assist people with their donations …and don’t forget to look for the dancing turkeys.
