The 7th Annual KNCO Nevada County Food Bank Turkey Drive was a big success. For the first time in recent years the sun was shining. This year KNCO’s Tom Turkey- Tom Fitzsimmons and his sidekick Deana were collecting turkeys from generous Nevada County residents that were driving by the the corner of Dorsey Drive and East Main Street. Food Bank Executive Director Toni Thompson says the conditions contributed to a good day.

Thompson says this year donations are especially important     because the Food bank has an additional challenge.

The Beale Air Force Base situation came to light in early October when the government shut down for over two weeks.

Technically Beale Air Force base is not in the Nevada Bank Food Bank coverage area, but Thompson says in this case boundaries don’t matter.

According to Thompson with the addition of Beale, the Food Bank will provide Thanksgiving to a record number of families.
