A storm that dumped some rain on Nevada County this morning (Monday) also brought with it some lightning strikes. CalFire Communications Operator Beth Bowersox says emergency responders had a flurry of activity starting around 9am…
That fire was on Pine Cone Circle in the Chicago Park area. Bowersox says there was also a report of lightning striking power lines near Stacy Lane and South Auburn Street in Grass Valley…
The power lines were not knocked down. Bowersox says there have been several reports of power surges, and blown transformers. There were several other reports of lightning strikes throughout the morning, but no fires reported. The downpour also caused some localized flooding at the intersection of Highways 49 and 20 in Nevada City (and on the Golden Center Freeway at Idaho Maryland Road). There were some traffic lights were also out of service for a time (Brunswick and Nevada City Highway, Nevada City Highway at Gates Place). The storm even struck the KNCO transmitter–knocking us off the air a couple of times.
