LAFCO, Nevada City Square Off on Sphere

The words ‘sphere of influence’ come to the forefront for Nevada City once again. Nevada County’s Local Agency Formation Commission, or LAFCO, is meeting again tomorrow morning, holding a workshop of what that so-called sphere should look like for the next several years. Nevada City Mayor Evans Phelps says the sphere of influence really has to do with what land could be annexed into the city in the future…

LAFCO is recommending that the sphere of influence be reduced, which the city is strongly objecting to. In addition to Phelps being the Mayor of Nevada City, she’s also on the LAFCO commission. But that doesn’t seem to sway how she feels…

Phelps suggests that LAFCO just leave the sphere of influence as it is, which is what they did the last time the issue was considered five years ago. The meeting is at 9:30 at the Board of Supervisors chambers. No action will be taken–this is part of the public comment period that will eventually lead to LAFCO’s decision.
