LaMalfa Urges Newsom To Reopen Some Counties

Doug LaMalfa was part of California’s entire congressional delegation urging Governor Newsom to allow at least smaller, rural counties, like Nevada County, to lift the shelter-in-place order and reopen businesses. LaMalfa’s district has eleven counties. He says three have no coronavirus cases, another with one case, and two other counties with four and five cases. He says some counties, like Butte County, also haven’t had a new case in a number of weeks…

LaMalfa stresses that social distancing practices should stay in place and events that would invite crowding should still not be held. LaMalfa also says he told the governor that if he didn’t recognize regional differences more that counties and cities will likely reopen without state approval…

Meanwhile, Modoc County, which is in LaMalfa’s district, is planning to defy the state lockdown and reopen Friday. It has fewer than nine-thousand residents and hasn’t reported a single case of coronavirus. All businesses, schools and churches can reopen their doors but must still abide by physical distancing. Those over 65 must still stay home as much as possible and large gatherings will still be banned.
