LaMalfa and others signed a letter to ranking members of the Appropriations Committee, supporting the funding for the 2017 fiscal year, but LaMalfa thinks it even possible to get a commitment as early as this summer…

The first new air tanker was funded last year, and the letter says they hope it “will be the first asset in what will be a highly reliable and effective national capability that will help contain the catastrophic wildfires that are devastating the west.”
