Another jump in Nevada County’s coronavirus case rate. It’s now at 10-point-7, two points higher than the previous Tuesday, and the second-highest among the 58 counties. Only Stanislaus County is higher at 11-point-1. Both rates would qualify for the most-infectious or Purple Tier. But Nevada County Public Health Officer, Doctor Scott Kellermann, says it’s unlikely that will happen, as long as hospitalizations stay low. Meanwhile, he indicates that, now that there are plenty of vaccinations available, a lot of the remaining population is indicating a reluctance, especially those 20 to 45 years old. Kellermann also agrees with public health experts who say that COVID-19 will likely never be completely eradicated. He says higher herd immunity would be needed than previously believed, or 85 to 90-percent, which is not expected to happen…

Nevada County is one of 12 counties still in the Red Tier. That also includes neighboring Placer, Yuba, and Sacramento Counties. Meanwhile, just a minor case increase on Tuesday, or five.
