Law Day Award Winners Banquet Tonight

Three high school students will be presented with scholarships tonight as winners of the annual Law Day essay contest. Today is National Law Day. Law Day was  started in the Cold War 1950s by President Eisenhower, and the Nevada County Bar Association has commemorated the event with an essay contest since 1978. Attorney and organizer Joseph Bell says this year’s theme is ‘Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.

John Baker, Lauren Brennan, and Brittany Percin have won the three scholarships of 1000 dollars, 500 dollars, and 250 dollars, but their order of finish will not be announced until the awards dinner at the Holbrooke Hotel this evening. Bar Association President Michael Cobden says the students don’t have to read their essays aloud tonight, but attendees of the dinner will still get to hear them from some of the judges.
