Law Enforcement Present for Ordinance Agenda Item

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors during public comment recently listened to a number of citizens, including attorney Jeff Lake for the Americans for Safe Access- Nevada County chapter, speak about the frustrations of the current county Marijuana Ordinance and suggestions for possible future amendments to the law. ASA-NC chairperson Patricia Smith, said she found it interesting that a number of sheriff’s deputies were present in the chambers during that discussion.

Shreiff Keith Royals says the presence of the deputies was striclty for precautionary reasons stemming from behaviors at a prior meeting.

Smith feels that may be a bit of an overstatement regarding that meeting.

ASA-NC Attorney Jeff Lake distributed suggested revisons to the Nevada County Orfiance based on the Yuba County Ordinance in hopes that the County will enter into mediation with ASA in order to have the current lawsuit challenging the orginace dropped saving the county and ASA thousands of dollars in litigation costs.

Only Supervisor Terry Lamphier has publicly supported mediation at this time.
