A reminder for hunters from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for the upcoming seasons.The first of three phases of a new state law banning lead ammunition on properties owned by the Department went into effect on July 1st. For the first phase, non-lead ammunition will be required when taking Nelson bighorn sheep and all wildlife on state wildlife areas and ecological reserves.
Blanchard also points out that lead ammunition may still be used on national forest, Bureau of Land Management, and private lands. But ban will cover all of California by July of 2019.
