Award season is nearing. And a Nevada City theatre company is getting one. Legacy Presents has won the “Doctor Leland and Sally Lewis” Award which is handed out each year by the local Chamber of Commerce. Sue LeGate runs the company, along with her son and husband. She says the award honors overall commitment to the performing arts…
LeGate and her son, Alvis, have received the award as solo artists in the past. She says Legacy has had a great year, including four Elly nominations for “Brighton Beach Memoirs”. They also had a production of “The Crucible”, in honor of the 100th birthday of Arthur Miller, and they are currently presenting “A Christmas Story”….
As for 2016…LeGate says they’ll kick off the year, once again, with a two-night Janis Joplin tribute concert in January. Their spring production will be the “Brighton Beach” sequel, “Biloxi Blues”, the fall production will be “Noises Off”, and, lastly, a holiday season solo performance called “Scrooge”. The “Doctor Leland and Sally Lewis” award, named after two local patrons of the arts, will be presented to Legacy Presents at the Chamber’s annual installation dinner on January 30th.
