About 100-million dollars in bonuses and tuition assistance were wrongly provided California National Guard soldiers from 2005 to 2010, but many recipients spent the money, and had no idea that they weren’t entitled to it. LaMalfa says it’s wrong to make them pay it back…
Similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate, and LaMalfa says both houses have bi-partisan support. Although the D-O-D did suspend efforts to collect the money, top officials still say many soldiers knew they weren’t entitled to the benefits.
