Lightning Strikes Rattle Area

Lightning strikes and thunder rattled houses and sent dogs hiding in a weather event  last evening. The Storm that passed over northern California also produced a number of lightning strikes in the Tahoe National Forest and other areas of the state as reported by  Tahoe National Forest spokesperson  Ann Westling.

Westling says Tahoe National Forest officials will be scouting today for any possible fires from the lightning activity but the rain and hail that came with the storm will minimize the possibility of fires.  She says the fire lookouts on the Tahoe National Forest have not been manned as yet this fire season but the firefighting aircraft are gearing into place and the National forest Service Helicopter is now stationed at White Cloud for this upcoming fire season. These maps show the extent of lightning strike activity.
