Livestock Auction a Success

The Heart of the Fair is the Junior Livestock auction and the stories of the youth that raise animals for it.
250 animals were registered for Sunday’s Junior Livestock Auction at the Nevada County Fair and a crowd of eager buyers lined up to make a bids.

As the bidding continued through the morning and into the afternoon….Youth were hoping to match the $360 thousand dollars that was raised at last years auction. Marshall Kardnis was getting ready to take his lamb Meathook into the ring.

Beef prices seemed to be on the low side this year…some going for 2 to 3 dollars a pound….. Some of the the 4H FFA kid’s with smaller animals were getting a better price. 11 year old Conner McGehee is in Meadowlark 4-H and raised just under $1-thousand dollars when his lamb sold for $7.50 a pound.

Friday night at the Ag Mechanics auction 58 items were sold….. Conner Olsen is an Ag Mechanics student from NU.

the Auction raised $38 thousand dollars for the students from Bear River and Nevada Union High School Ag mechanics programs.
