Local Couple Helps Catch A Thief

A couple returning to their home on Glenwood Road in Grass Valley at 10:30 Tuesday morning had an uneasy feeling when they saw a tampered dog door. Grass Valley Police Sgt Steve Johnson says the couple split up with the husband checking the downstairs and the wife checking the upstairs. The wife noticed a guest room that had been rifled though with items in disarray. Then she noticed something else.

The husband ran upstairs and the couple and the intruder had a short standoff. The intruder eventually raised his hands and said he wasn’t going to hurt them and just wanted to leave. The couple slowly backed up and made room for the suspect to flee the residence.
The couple provided an excellent description to police and officers flooded the area searching for the suspect.

An officer located the suspect, Joseph Naake 33 of Nevada City, as he popped through some bushes onto Manor Lane and was able to detain him.
Joseph Naake was taken into custody and booked for suspected first degree burglary.
