Local Eskaton Employees Approve Unionization

For the first time in an organization’s history, employees for that organization will be represented by a union. On Friday, the employees at Eskaton Village in Grass Valley voted 46-16 to form a union. According to Eskaton employee, Larry King, it is a first for Eskaton.

As a result of dissatisfaction with pay, schedules and other working conditions at the senior living complex, the Eskaton workers voted to join two sections of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). King says this is new ground for Eskaton.*

The National Labor Relations Board office in San Francisco handled the vote.
