14.4 million dollars. That’s the amount of damage to homes and properties in Nevada County due to the recent wildfires. A total of 29 homes were destroyed, and 64 parcels were damaged, with most of those properties in the Rough and Ready area. County Assessor Sue Horne says they originally look at the property tax rolls to come up with that dollar amount, and actual property damage could be greater…
Horne says appraisers will now go visit those homes and properties to determine the actual dollar value. Horne says those who did suffer extensive damage are eligible for a break on their upcoming property tax bill…
The deadline to file the proper paperwork to get that deferral is October 31, but Horne says most of the affected property owners have been notified and have turned in the forms. She says many filled out and returned the claim forms at the community meeting at the Board of Supervisors chambers two weeks ago.
