Local Group Spearheads 25th Annual “Calling Out of Names”

More than a third of Nevada County children in foster care are waiting for permanent families, and there is a local group working on their behalf to help find them families. Executive Director of Nevada County-based Mission Focused Solutions, Gail Johnson Vaughan spearheads an annual  statewide event as part of National Adoption Month.  The “Calling Out of Names of Children Who Wait” is a powerful vigil in which the names of thousands of children  will be read on the steps of the State Capitol.

Names will be read by dignitaries including Senate pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, as well as Jeff Brown and others.
Johnson Vaughan says Nevada County has 102 children in the foster care system and of those, roughly 35 are without permanent placement.

Johnson Vaughan says the event speaks the names of children who otherwise wait nameless and faceless.
