This Friday Lilly Pruett, a junior at Nevada Union High School, is going to compete at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Western National Championships in Spokane, Washington. At the Western Championship, she will compete against gymnasts from almost every state west of the Mississippi. Her parents, Kimberly and Barry Pruett, are both former gymnasts and coaches. Her mother says gymnastics was a part of Lilly’s life since she was very young.
Kimberly Pruett says that gymnastics, like any competitive sport, affects the athlete as well as their family.
Pruett says that, despite the physical hardships and time constraints of participating in competitive gymnastics, the sport has a great impact on athletes’ lives.
Lilly Pruett agrees that gymnastics has been a great help to her physically, even when applied to other sports like track.
Pruett plans to be a college gymnast while she studies civil engineering before joining the Air Force or Navy. She is coached by Monica and Noboru Miyagi at Miyagi Gymnastics in Auburn.
