Local Snowboarder Makes U-S Paralympic Team

Evan Strong was in a motorcycle accident when he was 17, and had his left leg amputated below the knee. Now, ten years later, he’ll be representing his country, and will be on national television on his sport’s biggest stage. Strong was born in Hawaii where he surfed and skateboarded. After his accident, he moved to Truckee to take up snowboarding, and has lived in Nevada City the past few years where he runs a vegetarian restaurant (The Fix). Strong is leaving for Spain tomorrow (Friday) to compete in the last two World Cup events of the season, before the paralympic opening ceremonies in Sochi on March 2. His event will be televised on NBC March 14.
