Although the Wall Fire is a couple of counties away, it is having an effect on Nevada County. The fire, near Bangor in Butte County, has now burned over six thousand acres and forced about four thousand people to evacuate. Cal Fire Captain Amy Head says they still have a long road ahead of them…
Although more acreage has burned, containment is up to 35 percent–compared to 25 percent this morning. Grass Valley’s Engine 334, which is owned by the state and operated by Grass Valley Fire, has been sent to the Wall Fire as part of a strike team. Nevada County Consolidated Fire, Brush 89, is part of another strike team. Other personnel from both departments are also on scene, including a mechanic and display processor from Consolidated and a field observer from Grass Valley. Grass Valley Air Attack has also been making drops.
UPDATE: There are a couple of smaller fires burning in the foothill area. The West Fire in Yuba County near Camp Far West has been contained now at 50 acres and destroyed two structures. It’s listed at 90 perecent contained. The Axel Fire in El Dorado County is 70 percent contained. It’s burned a hundred acres with no structures damaged. In Nevada, fires continue to burn east of Reno. The Winnemucca Ranch Fire is 95 percent contained (up from 75 percent this morning) at 48-hundred acres. The Earthstone Fire is now 92 percent contained, but has charred over 41-thousand acres. The Truckee Fire is fully contained now, after burning close to 100-thousand acres.
