Local Theater Wins in Elly Awards

CATS the Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra is taking  home four  Elly Awards for their production of   “Teahouse of the August Moon.”    CATS Executive Director, Jeanne Wood says they received 7 nominations overall in the competition that recognizes excellence in Sacramento  local and regional community  theater.

That theatre was located where the Gold Miner’s Inn Holiday Inn Express is today. Wood says that was the old site of Grass Valley’s Chinatown.

Locally,  Elly  awards also go  to Robert Roseman for Leading Actor in a Musical for  Sierra Stages production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” and   the Elly Award for Best Leading Actor of a Comedy  goes to Rodger Hoopman for his role in LeGacy Productions “I Hate Hamlet.”
