Volunteers staffing fire lookouts around Nevada County are getting credit for keeping a vegetation fire near Penn Valley contained to a very small area. CalFire Engineer Mike Kidwell says lookouts spotted smoke in the Penn Valley area near Indian Springs and Spenceville Roads around 2:40 this afternoon (Wednesday)…
Grass Valley Air Attack responded and found it burning inside about an acre area, surrounded by dirt roads. Ground crews were able to get in quickly to keep the fire from speading. Kidwell says they had not received any phone calls, so it was great to have the volunteers at their lookout posts…
There’s no word on the cause. Possibly an illegal debris burn, but that is still under investigation.
