Lookouts Credited for Spotting Penn Valley Fire

Volunteers staffing fire lookouts around Nevada County are getting credit for keeping a vegetation fire near Penn Valley contained to a very small area. Grass Valley Air Attack responded and found it burning inside about an acre area, surrounded by dirt roads. Ground crews were able to get in quickly to keep the fire from speading. Kidwell says they had not received any phone calls, so it was great to have the volunteers at their lookout posts…

There’s no word on the cause. Possibly an illegal debris burn, but that is still under investigation.
