In the Best of the West issue, readers are asked to pick their favorites in several categories, while the editors of the magazine chime in with their own picks. It was the editors who liked Grass Valley for Best Architecturally Preserved Western Town. The readers picked Deadwood, South Dakota. According to their website, True West magazine was founded in 1953, and has 200-thousand readers in over a dozen countries.
