Major Tree Removal Project Scotts Flat

Thanks to a quarter-million dollar grant a tree removal project has begun on 82 acres the Nevada Irrigation District owns on the Scotts Flat lakeshore, below the dam. NID General Manager Rem Scherzinger says the focus will be on small, diseased, and dead trees that are usually less than a foot in diameter. And there’ll be multiple benefits…

Scherzinger says the work will also create a barrier between the trees and the hydroelectric powerhouse, keeping the dirt road clear for firefighters. Some dead-but-standing trees will be left for bird cavity nesters. It’s hoped the project can be completed early next year.
