Newell says Stevens had made some strange statements at the arraignment. Police say the girl was able to fend off Stevens with her trumpet case after he had grabbed her by the neck on a trail leading to Condon Park in September. During a search, officers say they found a hammer concealed in Stevens’ hooded sweatshirt in a way where he could easily reach over his shoulder and grab it. They say they also found a knif
