This weekend my wife and I went to Old Sac for a bit of a date. (my blood pressure was a little low and the big city drivers always pep that up some) We left early to avoid the heat of the afternoon and planned on having lunch there before heading back home. As we wandered around looking at what we refer to as “tourist junk stores”, we both thought the same thing – “How do so many of these places stay in business selling the same stuff?”
After we searched for the perfect coffee mug, without success I may add, we decided it was time for food. We strolled down to the riverside to enjoy a nice view with our meal. We were shown to our table, the maitre d didn’t pull my wife’s seat out for her to sit down, so I did that for her. We looked over the menu and discussed our choices. When the server came to the table I ordered for both of us. The server actually did the “Hollywood nod” with my wife and raised an eyebrow to make sure I got it right! I’m not sure how I feel about this.
I was raised in an era where my Dad ordered for my Mom nearly all the time, and he always made sure she was seated before he sat down. He also made sure I knew that this was how a man was supposed to treat the woman he loved. I guess I might have been an overly controlling troll that ordered for his wife so she ate only what he decreed fit for her consumption. Is that kind of behavior so common place that food servers know to get the nod? Otherwise the meal was good, the service was fine, the ambiance was fun.
Good thing I don’t have a house under a bridge and like goat meat!
